Mokosh

Mokosh is the only female deity included in the Great Pantheon of Prince Volodymyr established in 980 CE on the Kyiv Hill. She is the goddess of fate, fertility, and women's labor, particularly spinning and weaving. In Slavic mythology, she is often associated with "Mother Damp Earth," representing the life-giving power of nature and the protector of childbirth.

Her idol stood alongside Perun in the central Kyiv sanctuary, making it the most significant site for her veneration in Kievan Rus. Mokosh was believed to spin the threads of life, determining the destiny of both gods and men. After the Christianization of Rus in 988 CE, her cult evolved into the veneration of Saint Paraskeva Pyatnytsya, but she remains the most vital symbol of female sovereignty and domestic well-being in ancient Slavic tradition.
