Aphrodite

📍 Paphos, Cyprus Deity ~2223 BC
Aphrodite

Aphrodite, the Greek goddess of love, beauty, and fertility, was one of the 12 Olympian deities. Her myths likely originated in West Asia and were introduced to Greece through the island of Cyprus. The Romans later adopted her into their pantheon, renaming her Venus. According to one version of the myth, Aphrodite was born when the Titan Cronus severed the genitals of his father, Uranus, and cast them into the sea. From the foam (her name is derived from aphros, the Greek word for foam) that formed on the water's surface, Aphrodite emerged. Some traditions claim that she then washed ashore in Cyprus, a key site of her worship.
