Set

Set (/sɛt/; Egyptological: Sutekh - swtẖ ~ stẖ[a] or Seth /sɛθ/) is a god in ancient Egyptian religion associated with deserts, storms, disorder, violence, and foreigners. In Ancient Greek, his name is rendered as Sēth (Σήθ). While Set is often seen as a force of chaos, he also had a positive role, accompanying the sun god Ra on his barque to battle Apep (Apophis), the serpent of chaos. Set was the lord of the Red Land (the desert), balancing Horus, who was the lord of the Black Land (the fertile land). In the central Egyptian myth of Osiris, Set is portrayed as the usurper who murdered and dismembered his brother Osiris. Osiris's wife-sister, Isis, with the help of the goddess Nephthys, reassembled and resurrected Osiris long enough for him to father his son and heir, Horus. Horus then sought revenge on Set, and their conflicts are a major theme in ancient Egyptian mythology.
