Nut

📍 Memphis, Egypt Deity ~3000 BC
Nut

Nut (pronounced /ˈnʊt/), known in Ancient Egyptian as Nwt, was the goddess of the sky, stars, cosmos, and the universe in ancient Egyptian religion. Typically depicted as a star-covered nude woman arching over the Earth or sometimes as a cow, she wore the water-pot hieroglyph (nw) as her identifying symbol. As one of the oldest deities in the Egyptian pantheon, Nut was the daughter of Shu and Tefnut, sister and wife to Geb (the earth god), and mother to Osiris, Set, Isis, and Nephthys. Originally representing the nighttime sky specifically, she eventually came to embody the entire celestial realm, with some scholars suggesting the Egyptians viewed the Milky Way as her celestial manifestation.
