Zhar-ptitsa
Zhar ptitsa is a majestic, glowing bird from Slavic folklore, originating around 1000 CE. She is described as having feathers that shine like pure gold and silver, with eyes that sparkle like crystals. Her plumage is so bright that a single feather can illuminate a dark room as if it were filled with a thousand candles. She is often associated with vast, open spaces like the southern Ukrainian steppes.
The Firebird is a symbol of luck, light, and divine fire, but she is also a difficult prize to catch. In many legends, she visits royal gardens at night to eat golden apples, which grant youth and immortality. Capturing the Firebird is a classic quest for heroes; while she brings fortune to those who find her, she can also bring great trouble to those who try to keep her in captivity. Her image represents the unattainable beauty of the sun and the soul's desire for the eternal light of the heavens.
