Nun'Yunu'Wi
The Nun'Yunu'Wi, whose name means "dressed in stone" and who is also referred to as the Stone Coat, is a formidable entity in Cherokee mythology characterized by a human-like form and skin so resilient that no earthly weapon can pierce it. This being is viewed as a powerful sorcerer or medicine man who possesses a magical cane used to track victims and control the minds of others. In legendary accounts, a hunter spotted the creature in the mountains and warned a nearby village of its approach, leading the local medicine man to advise the villagers to exploit the monster's unique vulnerability to the sight of menstruating women.
By placing seven such women in its path, the village successfully weakened the Nun'Yunu'Wi until it was completely immobilized, which allowed the villagers to burn the creature and recover a magnificent jewel and lumps of red paint from its remains.
