Mixcoatl

Mixcoatl (Nahuatl languages: Mixcōhuātl, [miʃˈkoːwaːt͡ɬ] from mixtli [ˈmiʃt͡ɬi] "cloud" and cōātl [ˈkoːaːt͡ɬ] "serpent"), also known as Camaxtle [kaˈmaʃt͡ɬe] or Camaxtli, was the god of the hunt associated with the Milky Way, stars, and heavens across multiple Mesoamerican cultures. He served as the patron deity of the Otomi, the Chichimecs, and various groups claiming Chichimec descent. In Huejotzingo and Tlaxcala, he was worshipped under the name Camaxtli as their principal deity.

In artistic depictions, Mixcoatl features a black mask covering his eyes and distinctive red and white pin stripes painted on his body. He shares these visual characteristics with Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli (Lord of the Dawn, god of the morning star) and Itzpapalotl (goddess of infant mortality sometimes identified as his mother). Mixcoatl can typically be distinguished from Tlahuizcalpantecuhtli by his hunting implements, which include a bow and arrows, along with a net or basket used for carrying game.
