Lusca

📍 Andros, The Bahamas — ~1863 AD
Lusca

The Lusca is a gargantuan octopus, proclaimed to exist in the Bahamas and the surrounding seas. Lusca are sometimes described as being half-shark, or having hands on the ends of their tentacles, though the monster's nature as a gigantic cephalopod is always consistent. The octopi are most commonly sighted around the Blue Holes of Andros Island, where they are said to drag unsuspecting prey that wanders too close into the azure depths and consume them.

Other reports sight similar octopi throughout the Caribbean sea, attacking fishing boats with their tentacles and dragging fishermen to their watery demise. The creature is often attested as growing to enormous sizes, with various estimates between 18-24m (60-80ft) or even up to 60m (200ft). With its immense size and aggressive nature, it is sometimes considered a tropical equivalent to the cold-water Kraken.
