Lethe
📍 Lima River, Portugal
Legendary Place
~1700 BC

In Greek mythology, Lethe was a sacred river flowing through the underworld of Hades. Known as the "River of Unmindfulness" (Amelēs potamos), its waters possessed the powerful ability to erase memories. All souls who drank from Lethe experienced complete forgetfulness of their former lives.
Lethe encircled the cave of Hypnos, the god of sleep, before winding through the depths of the Underworld. The river was closely associated with its namesake goddess Lethe, who personified oblivion and forgetfulness. She was born from Eris, the goddess of strife and discord.
The word "lethe" (λήθη) in Classical Greek literally translates to "forgetting" or "forgetfulness."
