Jersey Devil

The Jersey Devil (also known as the Leeds Devil) was the thirteenth child of Ms. Leeds. When she learned that she was expecting, she cursed it, proclaiming it to be a devil.

The offspring came out as a devil instead of a human child, and escaped into the Pine Barrens of southern New Jersey. Some speculated that Ms. Leeds was a witch and in league with the devil.

The Jersey Devil has been described as being a kangaroo-like creature, with bat wings, horns, and a serpentine tail. Sightings and even hoaxed captures have been reported throughout the years in the state, and it's status as a local legend and icon has been cemented over the centuries. It is said to still occupy the vast expanse of the Pine Barrens, and that it may be possible to encounter it even today.
