Chuhayster is an ancient forest deity from the Ukrainian Carpathians, with roots dating back to the pre-Christian era. He is described as a giant, shaggy humanoid covered in white fur who acts as a guardian of the mountains. Legend says he was once a human cursed to roam the woods forever.
His primary role is hunting and destroying Mavkas to protect forest workers and shepherds from their deadly charms. Unlike other spirits, he is friendly toward humans and obsessed with music and dance. If he meets a person, he invites them to dance; those who perform well are released unharmed and blessed with good luck. To show respect, locals traditionally leave him offerings of food in mountain huts.
