Anchutka

Anchutka is a fast, soot-black imp from Slavic demonology, whose name was often forbidden to be spoken aloud. These tiny, furry creatures are "heel-less," making them incredibly agile and silent as they move through marshes and forests. While often associated with northern Slavic regions, they represent a common East Slavic belief in minor, mischievous demons that inhabit the fringes of human settlements.

Unlike the Great Gods, Anchutka is a spirit of petty chaos. He thrives on frightening people, mimicking bird calls, or causing sudden cramps in swimmers. In the Polissya borderlands, such spirits were believed to be servants of the deeper swamp powers. He is the personification of "sudden fright" — a reminder that in the ancient world, even the smallest shadow could hide a cunning and unpredictable force.
