Adad

📍 Assur, Iraq Deity ~2000 BC
Adad

Adad was the god of weather in the ancient Babylonian and Assyrian cultures of Mesopotamia, located in the Near East. In other regional cultures, he was known by names such as Ishkur, Rimmon, Addu, Hadad, or Baal-Hadad.

As the son of Anu, the sky god, Adad was believed to have dominion over storms and rain. He was commonly depicted as a warrior wielding a forked lightning bolt or a club, with the bull—whose roar resembled thunder—serving as his sacred animal.
