THE COME-AT-A-BODY

The Come-at-a-Body was reported by Mr. B. B. Bickford of Gorham, New Hampshire, and is said to be found only in the White Mountains. It is described as a short, stubby creature resembling a woodchuck, though smaller in size and covered with exceptionally soft, velvety fur like that of a kitten.

Though harmless, the animal is startling in its behavior. It has the unnerving habit of suddenly charging straight out of the brush toward an unsuspecting passerby, halting just inches away before spitting like a cat. At the same moment, it releases a pungent, mink-like odor, then darts off into the undergrowth.
