Johnny Appleseed

Johnny Appleseed (born John Chapman; September 26, 1774 – March 18, 1845) was an American pioneer nurseryman who introduced apple trees grown from seeds (rather than through grafting) across Pennsylvania, Ohio, Indiana, Illinois, Ontario, and northern West Virginia.

He achieved legendary status during his lifetime through his kindness, generosity, conservation leadership, and the symbolic significance he attached to apples. Beyond his horticultural contributions, Appleseed served as a missionary for The New Church. His legacy continues through numerous museums and historical sites dedicated to his memory, including the Johnny Appleseed Museum in Urbana, Ohio.
