Aranda

📍 Eromanga, Queensland, Australia — ~50000 BC
Aranda

Aranda was the name of an enormous serpent in the beliefs and folklore of the native Australians of the Eromanga region of Australia. Aranda was said to inhabit the depths of deep billabongs and river stretches where the currents are so deep that they do not disturb the surface, for it is here that unwary humans go to draw water or to fish, ignorant of the danger lurking below. When in an unguarded moment of preoccupation the human is alone, Aranda seizes the victim and descends again, leaving no trace, as the victim is swallowed whole in one gulp.
