Anansi

๐Ÿ“ Kumasi, Ghana — ~1500 AD
Anansi

Anansi, the spider, is a famous trickster in West African mythology, known for using cleverness to outwit humans, animals, and gods. Initially seen as the creator of the world, he often acted as a messenger between humans and the sky god Nyame. However, most stories portray him as a mischievous figure who benefits himself by deceiving others.

In one tale, Anansi tricks a village into giving him corn, then exchanges it for a chicken, sheep, and finally 100 young men, claiming the items are sacred or the son of God. Many of Anansiโ€™s stories were brought to the Americas, where he became known as Aunt Nancy or Miss Nancy in African American folklore.
