Agathodaemon
📍 Alexandria, Egypt
Deity
~500 BC

Agathos Daimon (Ancient Greek: ἀγαθός δαίμων, agathós daímōn, meaning 'noble spirit') originated as a minor deity (daemon) in classical ancient Greek religion and Graeco-Egyptian religion. In his earliest Greek incarnation, he functioned as a household god who, together with Zeus Soter, received libations following meals.
During the later Ptolemaic period, Agathos Daimon evolved into two partially distinct forms. The first was as a prominent serpentine civic deity, serving as Alexandria's special guardian. The second was as a category of serpentine household gods known as the Agathoi Daimones, who acted as individual protectors of the homes where they were venerated.
